Imagine a world without good music, music to dance to, rock your sorrows away and at the same time appreciate the talent and dexterity of the artiste. In Nigeria, there are tons of heart-stopping musicians that will blow your brains above the roof top; to the clouds. They take their time to compose songs, the contents of the lyrics not being the bone of contention right now, and they just hit that jackpot, making us dance the hell out! When we think of anyone who vibes the whole of Naija, okay let’s not brag, the whole of Lagos, the one and only Shakitibobo and Shaku Shaku master, the hit maker, the street lover and rapper for all, Olamide, will definitely cross your mind.
Baba Milliano stole our hearts with series of crazy hits and he hasn’t given up now though. I remember when Eni Duro graced everywhere in Nigeria, disturbed several radio stations in Lagos and appealed to the streets. It was glorious! Olamide at that time was with ID Cabasa’s Coded Tunes under the management of Toni Payne. His debut album, Rapsodi, was worth the hustle; a true representation of hard-work. After the album paved way for him, giving him access to collaborations with artistes like Wizkid, 9ice, Reminisce, we didn’t know he had a lot cooking until his broke forth with his second album, YBNL under his own record label, YBNL. The album featured hit tracks like First of all, Ilefo Illuminati, and lots of ‘head bussaz’.
This was followed by another album the following year (2013) titled Baddest Guy Ever Liveth which was another ground breaking feat. Olamide came out with subsequent albums in the subsequent years till date, this ran from Street OT, Eyan Mayweather, The Glory, his collaborative album with Phyno, 2Kings to Lagos Nawa in 2017. He one of the very few artistes in Nigeria that let the albums flow! Apart from the fact he finds a way to introduce different dance steps periodically, his songs, he always finds a way to remain in the scene. He’s always banging every single year gush!
The ‘ Wo’ crooner a recipient of numerous awards which consist of more Nigerian Entertainment Awards and Headies. He has conquered hurdles which most indigenous rapper might not have survived. It’s good to know that our local rappers are more or less international local rappers; that good, hard-work. Our man crush today rocks!
